Robbie Burns and the North East

We will start 2025 with an illustrated talk about Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns and his connections with Newcastle and the wider North East of England. This will include details of ‘Rabbie’’s visit to Newcastle and his links with Newcastle United.

Our Speaker

Kevin Mochrie is a longstanding member of Heaton History Group. He is a former lecturer in housing and also worked for Newcastle Libraries local studies department. Kevin has undertaken research on a number of history related projects and is Heaton Stannington football club’s historian. He has had a lifelong interest in the work of Robert Burns after being introduced to him while in primary school.

Our Venue

This event will take place at St George’s United Reformed Church on Newton Road, High Heaton NE7 7HP. It is on the corner with Boundary Gardens, the same block as Heaton Stannington’s football ground, Grounsell Park.

There are excellent public transport links including the numbers 18, 38, 52 and 553, which stop right by the church.

There is car parking on the surrounding streets. 

Booking 

The event is free to Heaton History Group members and costs £2.50 for non-members. There’s no need to book. Just turn up on the night.
